[Southern Michigan League Scrapbook, c1906-1943, (bulk, 1906-1907)]

Southern Michigan League Scrapbook contains newspaper clippings (primarily from Jackson, Michigan, newspapers) that document the administration of this minor league between 1906 and 1907. Included are extensive articles on the formation of the league and of the rival Class C Interstate Association that operated only during the 1906 season. Personalities documented include League President Joseph S. Jackson, A. S. Burket, owner of the Jackson team in 1906 and Mt. Clemens in 1907, Paul Cobb (brother of Ty Cobb), and Manager Maurice Myers. Of note are articles on fans in various league cities, and a January 1907 articles on 12 league players who challenged the reserve clause by playing the 1906 season without contracts. Loose items include a 1909 postcard from a member of the Atlanta Crackers, two photographs of men working at a undetermined ballpark, and a baseball shaped 1907 pocket schedule for the Kalamazoo club.

The Atlanta Crackers were a minor league baseball team that played in the Southern Association from 1901 to 1961. During that period they won 17 league pennants and were often referred to as the ⁰́₋Yankees of the Minors⁰́₊ due to their record as the team that won the most games in the association. Myers, Maurice

Maurice (or William) Myers was the manager of at least two teams in the Southern Michigan League, Jackson (1906) and Kalamazoo (1907). He also worked for the Norris Collar Company of Detroit where he managed their independent baseball team.
